December 4, 2009 Phoenix Coffee Company
Earlier fundraising efforts by Phoenix Coffee have raised $800.00. In order to grant this request $1200.00 needs to be raised by December 31st, 2009. According to Phoenix Coffee Company’s CEO, Sarah Wilson-Jones, “It is vital for employees and customers to be aware of how difficult daily life is for coffee farmers”. Coffee farmers face difficulties every day with the lack of electricity, paved roads, and access to safe drinking water and healthcare, making disease and malnutrition common. All five Phoenix Coffee Cafes will be collecting donations during this time. The cafes will have information available for customers as well as images of Nicaraguan women coffee farmers. Customers can donate by cash, check or credit card. For more information contact Phoenix Coffee Company’s main office at 216-522-9744. Café locations and numbers can be found on the Phoenix website at phoenixcoffee.com
October 15, 2009 Phoenix Coffee Celebrates First Anniversary With Public Tea Tasting And Latte Art Competition To Fund Cafe Femenino Foundation Grant Request
There were many eclectic events planned for the day, all of which were geared towards raising funds for the Café Femenino Foundation, a non- profit organization that helps disadvantaged women coffee growers. Phoenix Coffee Company hopes to raise $2000 to fund a grant request for a women’s health clinic in Nicaragua. These workshops will offer breast and cervical cancer screenings in addition to education on female reproductive health. In these poverty stricken areas of Nicaragua there is little or no access to such resources. Phoenix Coffee CEO, Sarah Wilson-Jones, committed 10% of all sales from the day to Café Femenino. Also, raffle tickets were sold for $2.00 for a chance at prizes including gift certificates from Phoenix Coffee, Divine Wine Bar, The Chophouse, Brasa and more. A $5.00 donation per attendee was suggested. Events started off with a tea tasting and demonstration of a traditional Chinese tea ceremony by Phoenix barista Wes Johansen. Next, Phoenix’s Café Femenino fundraising captain Jessie Mueller hosted a Café Femenino information session. In addition, 10-20 professional baristas from local independent coffee shops competed in a “latte art throw down”. The winning lattes were auctioned off to audience members. Through the raffle ticket sales, latte auction and 10% of café sales from the day, the event raised $454.00 towards the grant.
